The termination of the Virgin Australia-Air New Zealand partnership on 28 October 2018 saw the introduction by Virgin Australia of direct Melbourne to Queenstown services. Virgin Australia, Jetstar and Air New Zealand all fly this route year round, but noteably, Virgin Australia is the only carrier to offer Business Class, with Jetstar and Air New Zealand providing an all Economy layout. Qantas fly the route on a seasonal basis and offer Business Class on their flights also.
