Having visited Singapore a few times in the past, we decided to check out the W on Sentosa Island.
Research and booking
The W Hotel Singapore is ranked #4 out of 15 hotels in Sentosa on TripAdvisor, putting it within the top quarter of hotels in the island.
The W Singapore is currently a Category 6 hotel on the Marriott Bonvoy programme, so you can book a base room for 50,000 points per night (or 40,000 for off-peak nights or 60,000 during peak when they are introduced).
Lobby & Check-in
We arrived in the evening and there was no wait to check-in.
The lobby spans the entire level and connects the reception on the left side of the building and the WOOBAR to the right.
The staff realised it was recently my partner’s birthday and wished him a happy birthday along with giving us a voucher for a birthday cake.
I was thanked for being a Platinum member and advised we had been given an upgrade to an 80-SQM Marvellous Suite.
You enter the suite into a large lounge room with wall-mounted LCD TV and surround sound Bose audio system.
As you step into the bedroom you’d be mistaken for thinking that the bed is hovering above the floor thanks to purple LED lighting around its base. The hotel staff had also setup balloons and a happy birthday sign for my partner.
There was an uncomfortable and impractical hanging egg chair in one corner.
There was a handwritten note and a box of chocolates waiting on the desk. Complimentary bottles of water are supplied for Marriott members.
The bedroom has master light and curtain controls right next to the bed plus universal power plugs. A charging box in the lounge room had connections for a wide variety of devices yet ironically lacked an iPhone Lightning adapter.
The entry hallway has a separate bathroom to one side with minibar and Nespresso machine in the cupboard.
As we arrived at night, we didn’t realise the view until the next day. This specific suite overlooked a row of apartments and wasn’t very private.
The bathroom was excellent. It featured a huge spa bath and walk-in shower that had a waterfall style shower head in the ceiling as well as jets in the walls and a handheld wand.
Full-sized bliss toiletries are supplied in all W Hotel suites.
WOOBAR is located on the lobby level near reception.
Bonvoy Platinum and above members receive complimentary breakfast if selected as the welcome amenity at check-in. This enormous breakfast buffet spans both The Kitchen Table and SKIRT restaurants.
WiFi was available throughout the resort and I clocked downloads at 9.56 Mpbs and uploads at 9.36 Mbps.
You may mistake the gym for a nightclub.
The styling won’t appeal to everyone’s taste and there are some especially odd pieces like the asymmetrical hallway ‘side boobs,’ baby-face lamp shades and rock lounges that are just as uncomfortable to sit on as they look.
As we had a midnight flight to Europe we had requested a late checkout, however, our suite was assigned to another guest. The reception staff arranged to relocate us at 10am to a Fabulous King room overlooking the pool that was amazing. It allowed us to laze by the WET DECK all day and have a place to shower before heading off to the airport in the evening.
Sentosa Island is home to Resorts World, Universal Studios, Aquarium, Dolphin Island, AJ Hackett, Adventure Cove Water Park, Cable Car and much more. A complimentary shuttle bus is available to take you to VivoCity on the mainland which has regular metro services into Singapore city.
Other W Hotel reviews
Other Marriott Bonvoy hotel reviews
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the W. Although in my eyes the interior design is more miss, than hit, it has excellent facilities and restaurants, we received a huge suite upgrade, and the service couldn’t be faulted.
Whilst the W Hotel brand usually appeals to a younger guest demographic, the W Singapore was full of families due to its location on Sentosa Island.
Although it’s located away from the city centre, when the sun was shinning on our last day, the Wet Deck was a perfect place to relax away from the city before our flight to Europe.
