In sad news, the dedicated Qantas Shopping Online Mall for New Zealand is closing.
Your chance to make a purchase through the NZ portal ends at 1pm Wednesday 9 January 2019.
At this stage, we are unsure whether this means that new plans are being drawn up for New Zealand, or whether Kiwis will be left to use the Australia-based online mall. We will update this guide once we know more.
Guide to the Qantas Online Mall for New Zealand
Qantas’ Online Mall is Qantas’ version of online shopping portal, allowing Qantas Frequent Flyer members to earn points on purchases from a large range of partner retailers.
In this guide we cover off the basics and key retailers for New Zealand online shoppers to help you earn more Qantas points.
Guide to earning Qantas Points at the Qantas Online Mall
This is a quick overview of the Qantas Online Mall for those who aren’t familiar with the concept or the retailers in it, or want a refresher.
Online Malls work by ensuring you log in with your Frequent Flyer program credentials before then being referred out (with a click) once logged in to make a transaction over on the retailer’s website.
The Qantas Online Mall is no different, and launched back in 2014 in Australia with just a handful of retailers, and is now also accessible from New Zealand.
You can find it at https://onlinemallnz.qantaspoints.com
The Qantas Online Mall now has 25 retail partners accessible to New Zealander members as of April 2018.
Here’s the full list of retailers:
|Retailer||Qantas Points per unit of spend|
|Marks & Spencer UK||5|
|Saks Fifth Avenue||5|
^ Don’t forget to add your Qantas Frequent Flyer number to your Kogan.com account before you purchase to earn an additional 1 point per $1 spent (total of 3 points per $1 spent)
If Qantas Points are your ‘currency’ of choice, remember to use a credit card that will allow you to also earn Qantas Points through general spend – in New Zealand, your best bet will either be the Amex Platinum Edge, or Platinum Charge.
Other Online Malls like the Air New Zealand Airpoints Mall, Velocity estore, Krisflyer Spree, and Asia Miles iShop also carry some of the retailers and are other key ways to earn points in New Zealand from online purchases.
One advantage for Qantas is that they have mobile optimised their Online Mall website. This makes it, I’d say, about twice as fast to get into the online store you’re purchasing from if you are on your mobile, which is pretty handy.
The NZ Qantas Points Mall is worth keeping bookmarked now that a number of partners are accessible to New Zealand Qantas Frequent Flyer members – make sure you get across the full list of partners over on the Online Mall site to see if there are any that work well for you.
