Each month, Singapore Airlines’ loyalty programme KrisFlyer offers 30% off its usual full redemption prices for Business and Economy Class flights. It only covers travel during the following month to/from Singapore and a range of destinations.
The New Zealand airports included in this month’s list are:
- Christchurch: Business Class for 43,400 miles

Why is this a good deal?
KrisFlyer miles are one of the more valuable mileage currencies for us in New Zealand. Whilst Economy Class redemptions are also offered on sale during these promotions, we usually focus on their Business (and First) Class redemptions as being ‘the deal’.
This deal makes sense for those with flexibility to travel at short notice and wanting to get good value from their KrisFlyer miles balance. A sweetener is that KrisFlyer does not add fuel surcharges to award tickets for travel on Singapore Airlines or SilkAir.
Taxes are about NZ$32 departing New Zealand—they are even less flying home.
Do note that, unlike regular KrisFlyer redemptions, Spontaneous Escapes redemptions cannot be changed or refunded, so make sure you are firm in your travel plans before booking.
This promotion runs monthly, with the list of destinations for the following month released around the 16-19th of the month before, e.g. 16-19 August for travel in September.

The discount will automatically be applied during the booking process. If you add on another leg to another discounted destination, the promotion will apply to both sectors, i.e. you don’t have to make two separate bookings.

Transfer points from Velocity to KrisFlyer
You could also consider transferring over your Velocity Points to KrisFlyer to take advantage of this deal and get some value from your Velocity balance.
Buying Velocity points could also be an option. For example, a purchase of 68,000 Velocity points would convert to the 43,400 KrisFlyer miles needed to make a one-way Business Class redemption under this current offer between Christchurch and Singapore.
This points purchase would cost AUD $1,638.00.

With seats on the route currently selling at $2,080 (AU$1960), this would represent an almost 20% discount on the price of the ticket.

How to redeem your KrisFlyer miles for a discounted Spontaneous Escapes award
- Log in to your KrisFlyer account with your membership number and PIN
- Select Book a Flight on your dashboard
- Click Redeem flights and select your travel details
- Redemption discount will only be reflected in the booking summary panel after you have selected the flights
Summing up
KrisFlyer’s monthly Spontaneous Escapes promotion represents great value for those with flexibility with dates and KrisFlyer miles (or Velocity points) to burn. New Zealand routes pop up irregularly, but when they do, they’re a deal not to be missed.
