Each month, Singapore Airlines’ loyalty program KrisFlyer offers 30% off its usual full redemption prices for Business and Economy Class travel during the following month to/from Singapore and a range of destinations.
In addition, the current promotion is offering 30% off SilkAir redemptions between select destinations, plus a discount off select Premium Economy redemptions.
SilkAir’s newest Business Class seats on its Boeing 737 MAX services
KrisFlyer miles are one of the more valuable mileage currencies for us in New Zealand and while Economy Class redemptions are offered on sale during these promotions, we usually focus on their Business Class redemption discounts as being ‘the deal’.
Some destinations have blackout dates during peak travel periods.
This deal makes sense for those with flexibility to travel at short notice and wanting to get good value from their KrisFlyer miles balance. A sweetener is that KrisFlyer does not add fuel surcharges to award tickets for travel on Singapore Airlines or SilkAir.
Do note that, unlike regular KrisFlyer redemptions, Spontaneous Escapes redemptions cannot be changed or refunded, so make sure you are firm in your travel plans before booking.
Take your loved ones on a summer adventure this June with KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes!
With 30% redemption discounts to a wide selection of destinations in the Singapore Airlines and SilkAir network to choose from, there is something for everyone! Simply redeem online from now till 31 May 2019 to qualify, for travel from 1 to 30 June 2019 inclusive.
For example, the cost of a one-way Business Class redemption between Auckland/Christchurch and Singapore drops from 62,000 to 43,400 KrisFlyer miles.
Taxes are about NZ$32 departing New Zealand—they are even less flying home.
There are specific flight numbers that are eligible for this promotion.
The discount will automatically be applied during the booking process.
If you add on another leg to another discounted destination, the promotion will apply to both sectors, i.e. you don’t have to make two separate bookings.
Note that there are blackout dates for some routes, so check the promotion page for more details.
Also note that under the terms and conditions of this promotion, ‘any change is strictly not permitted for bookings made under this promotion’, i.e. no cancellations and no date or route changes.
Transfer points from Velocity to KrisFlyer
You could also consider transferring over your Velocity points to KrisFlyer to take advantage of this deal and get some decent value from your Velocity balance.
Buying Velocity points could also be an option. For example, a purchase of 68,000 Velocity points would convert to the 43,400 KrisFlyer miles needed to make a one-way Business Class redemption under this current offer between Auckland/Christchurch and Singapore.
This points purchase would cost AUD $1,638.00.
With the cost of revenue seats on the route at $2,883, this would represent a 43% discount on the price of the ticket.
At the start of 2018, this promotion was rebranded as Spontaneous Escapes and now runs monthly, with the list of destinations for the following month released around the 17-19th of the preceding month.
Before this, here were some of the previous promotions:
- October 2017: 30% off Business and Economy redemptions
- August 2017: 30% off Business and Economy redemptions
- July 2017: 30% off Economy redemptions
- November 2016: 30% off Premium Economy and Economy redemptions
- July 2016:50% off Business and Economy redemptions (SilkAir only)
- May 2015:50% off Economy redemptions
- September 2011:50% off Business and Economy redemptions
KrisFlyer’s monthly Spontaneous Escapes promotion represents great value for those with flexibility with dates and KrisFlyer miles (or Velocity points) to burn. New Zealand routes pop up irregularly, but when they do, they’re a deal not to be missed.
