LOYALTY PROGRAMS: Relevant to Multiple Programs

Kaligo is one of the more aggressive hotel aggregators out there that offer bonus points for hotel bookings. They partner with a large number of frequent flyer and bank rewards programmes, with chunky bonuses on offer that change relatively frequently.

They have over 550,000 hotels available, all of which you should be able to earn points from. You can choose to credit to over 40 frequent flyer programmes, which include:

(Airpoints, Qantas Frequent Flyer and Velocity Frequent Flyer are unfortunately not partner programmes).

Kaligo’s pricing is variable, and like most hotel bookings, you’ll want to double-check prices against other booking options to ensure you are getting a good deal, even if it does come with a points bonus.

Current offer

Kaligo Offer Banner
  • Double miles/points on all bookings
  • Promotion offer period: 14-19 August 2019
  • Stay period: 14 August 2019 to 31 March 2020
  • Available only through

Is it worth it?

I had a quick look at a couple of example stays to see if the offer stacked up.

For a two-night stay at the Holiday Inn Cairns in November 2019, Kaligo quotes $306, earning 1,520 KrisFlyer miles. Booking direct is cheaper, at $291. I value those KrisFlyer miles at $29, so you’re coming out ‘making’ $14 by booking through Kaligo instead of direct.

Holiday Inn Cairns

I’ve stayed at the Holiday Inn Cairns and enjoyed the property

For a four-night stay over Christmas at the Anaheim Marriott near Disneyland, Kaligo quotes $1,194, whilst booking direct costs $1,154. The 12,484 Asia Miles you would earn with Kaligo I would value at a massive $237, meaning booking through Kaligo would ‘profit’ $197 compared to booking direct. That’s a great deal!

How to take advantage of this offer

  1. Decide if your travel plans between now and the end of March 2020 require hotel bookings
  2. Decide which frequent flyer programme you want to build your balance with, e.g. KrisFlyer
  3. Check pricing on Kaligo
  4. Check pricing by booking direct (and through other channels like Agoda or if you have time)
  5. Calculate the value of the frequent flyer points you’d earn using this guide
  6. Subtract this amount from the Kaligo price
  7. If the price is lower than booking direct/through another channel, book with Kaligo before 19 August

Earning points/miles for stays from Kaligo

Outside of specific bonus points promotions, you’ll also earn miles for each stay you book in future. There’s no set earn rate, and this varies with how much you spend and the hotel you book, with presumably Kaligo kicking you back more miles for hotels they receive higher commissions for.

Kaligo requires pre-payment for all booking but shows the cancellation policies and associated fees clearly in the checkout process.

Generally, Kaligo’s pricing should compete well with other consolidators, especially once you take into account the value of the bonus points or miles on offer but you may still find better outright deals by booking direct, so make sure you always do a comparison to check.

Summing up

Kaligo has a compelling offer if the hotel you want pops up at a cost that is competitive.

However, you should check against booking direct to be sure you’re not losing out on either more restrictive booking terms or price in order to earn points or miles.
